Got Questions?: Living Free from Guilt

If God can forgive my sins, why can’t I forgive myself? Why do I still have guilt for sins that God forgave years ago?

This is a great question that everyone tends to struggle at some point within their lifetime. Past sins have a way of creeping up and robbing us from the joy of our relationship with God.

There are two kinds of guilt in the Bible. There is godly sorrow and then there is worldly sorrow (2 Cor. 7:10). Godly sorrow that leads a...

Got Questions?: How do I know what God’s gifted me in?

How do I know what God’s gifted me in? / Does the parable of the talents imply that if you don’t use the gifts God has given you that he will take them away?

Understanding our Spiritual Gifts in the Kingdom is so important, because once we know how God has wired us and we use those gifts, we will be fruitful and fulfilled in meaningful service. First, we need to make the distinction between gifts and talents. Spiritual Gifts are not natural talents like...

Got Questions?: Can Secular Media Teach Christian Values?

I hope that we as Believers will begin to use the term "secular" a little less as time goes on. Meaning, of non religious nature doesn't mean there aren't truths to be gleaned. With that being said, Jesus himself was in and around the "secular" people of his day. I can imagine the degree of media back then was probably word of mouth and an occasional scroll being nailed up in the middle of the village or town announcing something going on.

David & other writers wrote...

Got Questions?: Should the role of women in the modern church be as limited and strictly regulated as in the New Testament?

This question would be addressed very differently depending on who is answering it—a male responder or a female, a conservative or progressive believer, a theologian or a layperson. No answer is satisfying to extremes on the end of any continuum, and perspectives are most definitely shaped by our cultural scripts of gender, power, and even education and personal narrative.

If one takes a purely literal view of specific, contextualized scriptures with regard to the role of women...

Got Questions?: Can you be re-baptized if you were baptized in another denomination?

The question of whether you can or should be re-baptized if you are now a part of a different denomination centers more around personal redemptive life change then it does the denomination itself. As a Baptist church, we get a lot of questions about baptism, why we baptize by immersion and what the Bible teaches about baptism. As a matter of fact, we offer a class several weeks before every baptism where anyone can come and study together what the Bible says about Baptism and what our...

Got Questions?: Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?

There is no denying that we live in a world of suffering and, sometimes, times get hard. Just turn on the news for a few minutes one night or glance at the front page of the newspaper and you’ll see stories of hurt and despair.

Much of the time, you hear about the errant path someone took that led them towards bad decisions and resulted in their poor situation. However, the stories that stay with us are ones where good people get hurt for, what seems to be, no reason at...

Got Questions?: Suicide

This month we are tackling questions YOU, the church, submit. We will tackle several of the most asked questions on Sunday mornings, and will use this blog to answer many more. Our goal is not to spoon feed you answers and send you on your way to blindly follow our advice. Instead, we hope to introduce you to scripture that addresses these questions, and provide guidance to make your own decisions. We hope this proves helpful to you as we all seek answers on this journey together.
