DNA: At The Core - Love God, Love Others
St. Augustine said, “Love God and do whatever you want.” On Sunday, we began a brand new sermon series entitled, “DNA: At the Core.” In this series, we are looking at core values for our life in Christ as well as those for us as God’s church. We started with the most essential value of all – “Love.” Jesus said it this way in what is known as the Great Commandment, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is first and the greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as you love yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” You see, if we are successful by the world’s standards in this life – if we make a lot of money, have great jobs, have nice things – but we do not love God and love others well, then we have missed out on what Jesus said is most important. This is the core and the essence of our existence in Christ and our existence as His church.
This week, we will explore our second core value that centers on “Making a difference.” Life is not all about us; in fact, life is all about God and all about others. As we invest our lives in making a difference in the lives of others, that is where life makes sense. You don’t want to miss this coming Sunday as we dive deeper into what is called the Great Commission. Essentially, a great commitment to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission makes for a great life and a great church! Let’s live it together!
