Guard Your Heart From "Little" Sins
Many times in life we think that little things are no big deal. We have "little" sins we work to conceal thinking no one knows. But God knows. And God cares. Little things are big things to God. He is holy and perfect, and He only wants the best for you. He knows these "little" sins will ultimately hurt us as well as those around us. Being a person of "unwavering commitment" means dealing with anything in your life that is not of God. Have the courage to pray as David did in Psalm 139, "Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." Allow God to point out things in your life that are not of Him, then ask Him for healing. Receive His forgiveness and through obedience experience His blessings!
Watch a recap of this Sunday's sermon as God reveals five life lessons to help us guard our heart from the "little" sins that creep into our lives.
Five life lessons for us…
Little things matter to God. (7:10-12)
The LORD said to Joshua, “Stand up! What are you doing down on your face? Israel has sinned; they have violated My covenant, which I commanded them to keep. They have taken some of the devoted things; they have stolen, they have lied, they have put them with their own possessions. That is why the Israelites cannot stand against their enemies; they turn their backs and run because they have been made liable to destruction. I will not be with you anymore unless you destroy whatever among you is devoted to destruction.”
There is time to repent. (7:14-15)
“‘In the morning, present yourselves tribe by tribe. The tribe that the LORD takes shall come forward clan by clan; the clan that the LORD takes shall come forward family by family; and the family that the LORD takes shall come forward man by man. He who is caught with the devoted things shall be destroyed by fire, along with all that belongs to him. He has violated the covenant of the LORD and has done a disgraceful thing in Israel!’”
The consequence of sin is death. (7:24-25)
Then Joshua, together with all Israel, took Achan son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the gold wedge, his sons and daughters, his cattle, donkeys and sheep, his tent and all that he had, to the Valley of Achor. Joshua said, “Why have you brought this trouble on us? The LORD will bring trouble on you today.” Then all Israel stoned him, and after they had stoned the rest, they burned them.
God extends grace when the price is paid. (7:26)
Over Achan they heaped up a large pile of rocks, which remains to this day. Then the LORD turned from His fierce anger. Therefore that place has been called the Valley of Achor ever since.
Obedience to God and His timing results in blessings. (8:1-2)
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Take the whole army with you, and go up and attack Ai. For I have delivered into your hands the king of Ai, his people, his city and his land. You shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king, except that you may carry off their plunder and livestock for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city.”
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
