Obviously, Biblical teaching is an important process which involves much prayer and spiritual discernment. In actuality, we plan our teaching calendar about three years in advance. Even now we are thinking about 2012 and beyond. This helps us know where we are going as well as helps us develop fully mature followers of Christ. Each year, we endeavor to have a balanced diet on Sunday mornings so that people are maturing in all aspects of their spiritual growth. Take, for example, this year. We began the year by recasting the vision for God’s church at Rolling Hills. This was a crucial time for all of us to be on the same page going forward as the Body of Christ. We are God’s church today, and this brings an incredible responsibility for us to live as His people and His ambassadors in our day and in our generation.

With all of us on the same page, we experienced an incredible series, “Blessed Are…Life’s Healing Choices.” In this series, we walked through the Beatitudes of Jesus found in the Sermon on the Mount, and who can forget the powerful testimonies we heard from people within our own body of believers?

Next, we spent three weeks focusing on the “Art Of…Sharing, Speaking and Living our Faith.” Digging into Acts 3 and 4 was a natural follow-up to our previous series as well as a time to prepare God’s people for the Easter season. For this most special time of the year, we “Enter”ed the Easter season with teaching on the major doctrinal themes related to Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. We have been teaching foundational doctrine in this series as we have opened door after door – the doctrine of Hope, Redemption, Salvation, Reconciliation and Freedom.

As we continue in 2010, we will grow deeper through some powerful series. This Sunday, we begin a new series on the topic of worship. Our series entitled, “Awaken – the Big Picture,” will help us understand that worship is far more than what we do for 20 minutes on a Sunday morning. God intends for us to live a life of worship, and this series will help us re-order our lives around this heartbeat of God.

Our summer study will be amazing as we spend June and July digging into the Book of Isaiah. If you have not spent much time in this pivotal book, get ready to mine out deep truths from the Old Testament that will strongly impact your life today.

With August comes a great opportunity for us to develop godly character. Our study will focus on becoming more like Christ as a “Contagious Giver” – giving our time, our resources, our experiences and ultimately our lives for the glory of our great God! Fall will find us digging into the New Testament with our “New Testament Challenge.” We will challenge our entire congregation to read through the New Testament, and we will address the major themes on Sunday morning. This leads into our Thanksgiving and Christmas series, and I believe these will be unbelievably special times for us to worship and celebrate all our God is doing in our lives individually and corporately together as His church.

This year promises to be truly incredible as we develop into fully mature followers of Christ. From the Old Testament to the New Testament as well as teaching series focusing on the five major purposes of our lives (worship, evangelism, discipleship, fellowship and ministry), I believe God has so much to mature in all of us. From Sunday morning worship to Community Groups, we will become more like Christ as we grow in His Truth and His Word. Each series will be powerful in and of itself, but together they will comprise a year of deep personal growth and development. Add to these times of teaching, mission trips, serving opportunities and personal spiritual development like Monvee, and you have one awesome year! So, let’s go! Don’t miss a Sunday morning and let’s grow together as Christ’s disciples today!

Our God is truly doing something special here at Rolling Hills, and I love being on this journey with each of you! All glory to our great God!
