Summary

The Parable of the Good Samaritan is one of Jesus’ Greatest Stories. It is so important for us to “go and do likewise.” We are called to love and serve others. This starts with seeing the needs around us – our family, friends, church, work, school, neighborhood, and to the ends of the earth. We can’t do everything, but we can all do something. But, even greater in this story, is realizing that Jesus is the One who rescues us. When we were dead, and lying on the side of the road, Jesus came and paid the price to give us life. Let’s worship Jesus on this Palm Sunday!

Content

1. See the needs around you.

But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came to where the man was; and when he saw him… Luke 10:33a

  • Do we see the needs all around us?
  • What keeps us from seeing the needs around us?
    • Busyness
    • Fear
    • Materialism

  • Learn to see people the way Jesus sees people.
    • Matthew 9:35-38

2. Be compassionate.

... and when he saw him, he took pity on him. Luke 10:33b

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes and to prompt your heart.
  • We can’t do everything, but we can all do something.
  • We are not simply called to be consumers, but contributors.
  • Think about all the excuses this Samaritan could have used.
    • Proverbs 3:27-28

3. Know there is a cost.

He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Luke 10:34

  • Think about what all it cost this Samaritan:
    • Money
    • Time
    • Comfort

  • If you are going to live the Christian faith, then you have to do two things:
    • You have to be willing to be interrupted – love is often inconvenient.
    • You must be willing to take risks.
  • As you go to serve in the name of Jesus, so often you are the one who is blessed.
    • Proverbs 3:9-10

4. Respond to the call of Jesus.

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.” Luke 10:37

  • Notice this is a command.
  • We grow to be more like Jesus when we serve.
    • Isaiah 58:10-11
  • Yet, Jesus is the real Hero of the Story.

Communion

This is the beginning of Holy Week. On the night Jesus was betrayed, He brought His disciples together to share the Passover meal. He took the bread and broke it, saying, “This is My body broken for you.” The cup is, “My blood poured out for you.” “Do this in remembrance of Me.” If you are a Christ-follower, you are invited to His table to share, worship, and remember today.
